Everyone wants a birthday cake, but how do you forgo the sugar and white flour? Here are some tips for making a healthy, yummy cake. Do this by following a “normal” recipe and make some healthy changes. Carrot cake, banana bread, and coconut cakes are easiest for making healthy changes. Sponge cakes are also easy and delicious.

1. Instead of white flour, use oat flour, as it rises well.
2. For fluffy sponge cakes, use extra eggs, separate the whites from the yellow yolks. Beat the whites to a peak and gently fold in the beaten yolks.
3. Instead of sugar, try applesauce! It makes a great sweetener. You may also use honey or rice bran syrup.
4. Use fresh fruit juice as a liquid or grate in lemon or orange rind for added flavor.
5. You can never use too much vanilla.
6. Use coconut oil or grapeseed oil for the fat or oil you need in a recipe.
